No mistaking the name of this bothy!

Cooking and conversation by the fire in Shenavall bothy

Look out for...

Wildlife: Native red deer linger in this wild valley; keep a look out for them as you explore this area.

Famous visitor: Prince Charles famously visited Shenavall bothy back when he was a pupil at Gordonstoun School, near Elgin; he even recorded his name in the bothy book. So when you spend the night there don’t forget to fill it in too – you’ll be in good company.

How to get there

Classic: The quickest way in is from Corrie Hallie – the layby just outside Dundonnell. From there cross the road and take the well-defined trail that skirts alongside the Allt Gleann Chaorachain. Follow it as it begins to climb and then forks in two above Loch Coire Chaorachain. Take the path to the right – which gets rough in places – and follow this as it pulls up and over the lower reaches of An Teallach’s satellite summit of Sail Liath, then descends down into the valley below. Before you reach the valley floor the bothy is on your left.
